Latest news on Dover/Calais
07/08/2015
Industrial action and migrant activity in and around Calais are creating ongoing disruption, which may impact holidaymakers travelling to and from France, via ferry and through the Eurotunnel.
In the UK, Operation Stack on the M20 has been put into effect to manage the backlog of lorries trying to reach Calais. This is causing disruption on the roads for holidaymakers travelling to the ports.
Holidaymakers are advised to keep up to date with their travel provider and should check before they travel to allow extra time if necessary. Travellers are also advised to carry sufficient supplies of essential items such as medication, baby formula, nappies etc. and items such as books or games to keep their children occupied in case of a delay.
Travellers heading to the port of Calais should also allow extra time for their journey. Additionally, the Foreign Office advises that travellers at the port of Calais should keep vehicle doors locked in slow moving traffic and secure their vehicle when it is left unattended.
Eurotunnel is advising that customers without a reservation should not seek to travel as it is currently unable to sell tickets to non-reserved customers. Customers with reservations should check the latest information on the Eurotunnel website.
Approximately 4.5 million British people a year travelling to France will do so by ferry from Dover or by Eurotunnel.
