01/08/2017
We all want to get the most value for money when it comes to foreign currency and rates can vary so much.
This week’s travel blog explores the different options available to you when exchanging currency and paying for goods and services overseas, and some useful tips and advice from us to help you get the best deal.
Where can you get the best exchange rates?
When buying foreign currency the options are endless; websites, bureau de change, travel agents, the post office and even department stores and supermarkets are now offering this service.
With so many places to change your money and rates changing all the time it can be confusing, but this handy travel money finderwill help you get the best deal.
Is it free to use your credit or debit card abroad?
With certain providers it can be free to use your card abroad, however remember to double check this and let your bank know your travel plans in advance. The following guide will give you an indication of any fees you may be charged for withdrawing cash abroad.
JTC top tip:If you are paying for something by credit or debit card in a shop or restaurant on holiday, we would always recommend that you pay in the local currency. If you do choose to pay in sterling you may fall into the trap of having to pay more as the exchange rate is generally less favourable.
Protect your money abroad
Naturally we hope you don’t lose your cash when you’re on holiday, but in the unfortunate event that this does happen (or even worse they’re stolen) then your travel insurance is there to protect you, giving you peace of mind when travelling.
