Moscow Sheremetyevo has been voted the best airport in Europe for customer service by the Airports Council International. 

Close runners up were Malta, Edinburgh, Keflavik and Zurich.

The winners of the awards are determined by travelers themselves, who fill out questionnaires at the gates of airports around the world throughout the year.

In North America, the top five airports were in Indianapolis, Ottawa, Tampa, Sacramento and Jacksonville.

In Asia, the winner was Seoul Incheon, followed by Singapore, Beijing, New Delhi and Hong Kong.

Cancun took first place in Latin America, and Cape Town won in Africa. Abu Dhabi scored gold twice for best airport and most improved in the Middle East.

"As airports and their operators increasingly accept the positive correlation between passenger satisfaction and airport revenues, we see more and more airports striving to meet, and in some cases exceed, the levels of customer service that their passengers expect." Said ACI world director general Angela Gittens.

Attended by leading figures from the global aviation industry, the Skytrax World Airline Awards were held at the Farnborough Air Show on 12/07/2012.
